Loess bluffs and Delta bottoms
MSU Extension notes that deep loess forms bluffs near Yazoo City. Loess is fine, wind-blown silt. The National Park Service, writing about the same kind of bluffs at Vicksburg, says loess holds up in vertical cuts but erodes heavily on slopes. So on bluff ground, how you clear and grade matters. We often select clear to keep trees on a slope, and we shape pads and drives so water does not cut new gullies.
West of town the ground is flat Delta clay along the Yazoo River. There we build house and shop pads with hauled-in fill, grade yards with a laser level, and do grading and drainage work to move water off buildings and drives. We dig ponds and dirt pits with an excavator and dump truck, and grade building sites and arenas with a track loader.

Hunting ground around Yazoo County
Panther Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is near Yazoo City, Lake George WMA is in Yazoo County, and the Delta National Forest is just west in Sharkey County. Private bottomland and hill timber around them gets hunted hard. B&M cuts lanes and trails wide enough for a truck and trailer, so you can reach stands and blinds without tearing up the woods.
When a tract needs opening, we clear it out of thick timber and push the timber into windrows, or run the forestry mulcher on brush and smaller trees. Select clearing keeps the good trees standing and takes out the rest. For a camp, we can clear the site, build the pad and cut the road in.
Lots and permits in Yazoo City
Yazoo City has school lots at Yazoo City High School and private schools including Thomas Christian Academy, Manchester Academy and Covenant Christian School. The Federal Correctional Complex is here too, along with churches and stores along the highways. Straight Line Services stripes new or sealed asphalt, lays out traffic flow, marks fire lanes and no-parking zones, and does ADA approved layout.
Inside the city, Yazoo City's building inspector and code enforcement division handles building permits. If your project is inside city limits, start there. Outside town, check with Yazoo County. Mississippi law requires notifying 811 before digging, and jobs disturbing an acre or more fall under MDEQ construction stormwater rules. Bare loess slopes wash fast, so plan erosion control early.
